I Just Watched “Fire Over England”

And you can, too, here courtesy of the Internet Archive.

This is an important film for a lot of reasons. It’s an early action adventure, early Lawrence Olivier and Vivian Leigh (beginning of their romance), features a very young James Mason (as a villain, imagine), but most of all it is the first of two times Flora Robson played Queen Elizabeth I, the second being the better known Errol Flynn vehicle The Sea Hawk. Robson is generally considered to be one of the two or three best Elizabeths in screen history, and many consider her the all-around best.
