Holy State Fees, Batman!

Just renewed my driver’s license on line.

That’s not a convenience fee, that’s a tax!

Ow Ow Ow!!

Speaking of Fees, Gordon is available for Kindle here. Pretty much anything he writes is worth reading.

  1. A convenience fee “normally” goes to the vendor the state has farmed the pay portion of the web site to. It’s usually a percentage of the payment.

Every credit card transaction costs. Usually the business is eating that cost, but laws sometimes prevent states from doing that.

    FWIW, I feel your pain.

  2. In the old days the real fee was standing in line to get your license. Now there’s no line but the nominal fee has become substantial.

Let me give the state of MS credit: got my license in the mail in three days. That’s impressive for a bureaucracy.
