As usual, I’m a bit ahead of our Sunday School lessons. Two weeks ahead in fact, as I’ve finally made my choices of reference books to use for my notes in our upcoming Lifeway Explore the Bible Winter 2008 unit on 1 and 2 Thessalonians. For those interested I present the list of books I’ve chosen beyond the usual out of copyright antique commentaries in E-sword:
1. F.F. Bruce, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, Word Bible Commentary, vol.45 (1982)
2. Charles Wanamaker, The Epistles to the Thessalonians, New International Greek Testament Commentary (1990)
3. Ben Witherington III, 1 and 2 Thessalonians: A Socio-Rhetorical Commentary (2006)
5. E. Randolph Richards, Paul and First Century Letter Writing (2004): I’m reading this now and it’s a window on a new world as I’ve never read a book on ancient letter writing before. Two thumbs way up!
