The Tyndale Bible Commentaries are about as close to that near-mythical beast, “perfect for the educated layman” as you will find. It is the most reasonably priced whole Protestant Bible commentary set Logos offers, and right now it is on sale.
I broke down and bought the set when the sale hit and I highly recommend it. It really is that midrange, scholarly but not overly technical commentary series so many are looking for. You won’t be disappointed in the investment.
